Ahhh, the books. First of all, I have always been a words person. Love to read, love the process of finding the right combination of words to communicate a thought, love poetry, love Shakespeare – you get the picture. But I am not one of those people who always dreamed of writing a book. That all changed when Tippy came into our life. You see, after we decided to adopt Tippy, he “unpacked” (in the words of our former vet.) He figured out that he was probably going to stay in what had turned out to be a pretty nice place, so why not test the boundaries? And test them he did. Chewing inappropriately, peeing inappropriately, – there was simply nothing appropriate about him. And boy, did I ever have a case of adopter’s remorse. But my wise husband suggested that we find a way forward so with the help of time and a good trainer, Tippy fell into line. But after reporting all of those shenanigans of his to a select group of friends, they planted a seed. “MB, you really should write a book.” And since it was January in New England and there wasn’t much else to do, I started to do exactly that. The result was the first in the Tippy book series – Tippy Finds a Home. It was a wonderful, creative experience, I worked with a gifted illustrator, and at the end of the day I assumed that that was that.
But the universe had other plans as the universe often does and Tippy planted the seed of an idea for the second book – Tippy Finds a Purpose. Which was followed by Tippy Learns a Lesson (spoiler – he really doesn’t), and now finally – Tippy Makes a Move. All of these stories are based on real events and happenings in Tippy’s life. And also (I’m coming to realize) in mine. I guess you could say that Tippy is my muse. The books have brought much into my life and my “author chapter” – though unanticipated – has proven to be a joy.
